Running Home

Today I tried running back home

Overwhelmed by emotions in a moment of vulnerability

I ran home.

Knowing I would find nothing, wishing with all my heart that a miracle would happen.

I knew they wold not be there, yet I was hoping

Hoping to see something that would give me comfort

The garden in the back,

the rose bushes,

the old fruit trees I use to climb

the old juniper that protected the house

the chicken coop

It’s been 30 years

there is nothing left but the house

Everything is gone

My Grandmother’s trees cut down

Her garden cemented over to make a new driveway.

There is half a rose bush left with one wild pink flower

Nothing else remains
